Except the Asians, of course.

I am cranky, JoeUser. This post, expressing the crankiness, may be safely dismissed as a troll.

So let me get this straight:

For over a generation now, a central message of the Democratic party has been that Republicans hate the poor and wouldn't mind seeing them all dead (or enslaved in concentration camps, or both).

For at least that long, "everybody" has known that New Orleans was in severe danger of catastrophic flooding, due to an inadequate flood control system.

So the poor people of New Orleans have got to be complete idiots, right? Either they haven't been paying attention for the last fifty years or so, and had no idea what kind of danger they were in, or they knew what kind of danger they were in and did nothing about it.

On the one hand, despite the best efforts of the liberals who care about them, and the efforts of the Democrat leadership of their own city and state, they just couldn't get the poor people to understand the danger they were in from the conservatives and Republicans of the world.

On the other hand, the poor of New Orleans must have known that they were in severe danger of drowning, and that their own government wanted it that way. And yet, they did nothing to get out of the situation. I mean, poverty is poverty, right? Being poor in a flood zone is still worse than being poor in the uplands, right? Hell, being rich in a flood zone is probably worse than being poor in the uplands.

I don't seem to have much of a point here. What little point I do have is this: The Democratic party's message lately seems to be that we should know better than to trust the Republicans. And yet apparently thousands of poor people in New Orleans opted to ignore that message and carry on as usual. What went wrong? Are the Democrats unable to get their message out, even in cities they control? Or are the poor of New Orleans too stupid to get the message into their thick skulls?

Which is it? Incompetent and unbelievable Democrats, or incompetent and idiotic poor people?

get em!!! stute... the left cares not for the poor of this country , they only care about dividing this great nation and holding onto power.

How soon everyone forgets it was the democratic party that stalled the civil rights act for years and years and that the republicans pushed it through.

Or maybe it's just that the democrats are actually the evil ones to watch out for. All they had to say was 'Watch out, the republicans are gonna get you. Hang by me and you'll be safe. You don't need to do anything because I'll take care of you.'

Then when the people they promised to protect were in danger they stepped back, and let their grand plan come to fruition, which was to backstab all of those who supported them by leaving them to fend for themselves, like a young bird tossed from its nest before it was able to fly, ultimately crashing into the ground.

Of course more likely is just that people are both lazy and fallible. Everyone makes mistakes, it's part of being human. The trouble in the equation is the laziness. Given the option people will tend to take the easy way out. What's easier: spending time to work toward a solution, or playing off of the fallibility of the opposition to build up your own cause. This is clearly an indictment which can be tossed at either side of contemporary US politics.

The two party system sucks.

Limbaugh pointed out last week that the Dems did all they could to get the poor minorities out to the polls, but did nothing to get them out of New Orleans. I'm inclined to agree with this opinion, facetious or not.

Wanna bet no liberal sneaks an answer in?  You asked a loaded (if appropriate) question.

'hood on Nov 1st with all sorts of flyers announcing free rides and pick up points,

You know what's funny? They used the exact same tactics the Nazis used to get people out to vote for Hitler in 1934 (of course, by that time, he was the only one on the ballot. The SA and SS carried old people and shut-ins out of their homes and down to the polls, and provided people who had no transportation with rides.

Just like the libs last November. How fascist of them! Nazi Bastards!
